There’s no stopping the technology development train, so what can we expect from its future?

What types of technology will rise to the top and dominate the industry in 2023?

While no one in the tech world currently possesses a crystal ball to see what’s to come, there are definitely some major up-and-coming technologies that the world should look out for and adopt in the coming year when the time is right.

Top five technology predictions for 2023

The top five technology predictions for 2023 include super apps, adaptive artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, alternatives to cloud computing, and sustainability. Companies should take a closer look at how these different tech areas will impact the industry in the near future.

Super apps

Super apps combine core features with access to independent mini-apps that are added or removed from the ecosystem to create personalized user experiences.

While most examples of existing super apps work on mobile devices, the concept is also easily applied to desktop client applications. Their main goal is to replace multiple apps with a single consolidated app that provides the customer with access to the things they might need the most.

PayPay is an example of a successful super app. This is a Japanese payment provider with around 50 million users. The app also provides mini-apps for purchasing movie tickets, ordering food, financial management, bicycle sharing, and more.

Future super app developments will likely include features that support chatbots, Internet of Things (IoT) tech, and the Metaverse.

Adaptive artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is now ubiquitous, as we use it when we search the web, shop online, manage schedules, and carry out many other tasks, both mundane and creative. But even for all its popularity, we still have to see its full potential in action.

A great example of AI possibilities will come with the development of adaptability. Adaptive artificial intelligence can take new data, learn independently, and adapt to unique circumstances that weren’t predictable at the beginning of development.

This means that artificial intelligence will be suited to automate repetitive and mundane operations and integrate into dynamic and rapidly changing environments.

Adaptive artificial intelligence will likely be vital in fields such as medicine. AI-powered software integrated into a hospital could provide recommendations for drug doses based on the analysis of a patient’s vitals, for example. It could also help determine which patients are at a higher risk for certain diseases.

Secure IoT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a system of electronic devices that can communicate and exchange information through the web. Some of the most common examples of IoT devices include:

  • Smartwatches
  • Fitness trackers
  • Cleaning robots
  • Smart fridges
  • Smart door locks
  • Smart bicycles

This sort of tech will continue to develop as it evolves and transforms different places into smart cities. IoT devices incorporated into waste management, urban safety monitoring, and water distribution are now crucial to certain developed cities.

An important aspect of this tech is the risk of data leakage and identity theft. Security is a primary concern in this field, and companies are investing in taking extra steps toward user security. In fact, the IoT security field expects to spend $6 billion by 2023, a whopping 300% increase from 2018, which showcases how important IoT security is becoming.

Alternatives to cloud computing

Cloud computing is the availability on-demand of resources like servers, storage, and databases without direct active management by the user. It’s a highly beneficial tool as it is reliable, enhances recovery, reduces costs, and facilitates collaboration.

Ever since cloud computing became the norm, technology evolved, and new alternatives began appearing. Edge computing and fog computing are two of the most popular options, which help make processing easier and faster.

Edge computing brings data and computation closer to where it’s needed. It increases response time, saves data bandwidth, and is useful for IoT devices. Data analysis happens in real time.

Fog computing moves every function (storage, analysis, processing, etc.) to the network’s edge, which is excellent for managing vast amounts of data in a network. This alternative overcomes cloud computing’s inability to process huge quantities of data in real time.

Sustainable tech

Sustainability is a trend that traverses all technological sectors in the near future, as it is a top priority for investors. This means that companies are likely to search for sustainable technology frameworks that increase the energy and efficiency of tech services.

Potential solutions include investing in traceability and renewable energy or even developing tech solutions to help users achieve their sustainability goals. It’s definitely a non-negotiable trend as companies will look for greener technology and new ways of reducing waste.

Technology predictions for 2023 – other trends

Besides the five technology predictions presented here, many other trends are on the rise for the near future as the industry continues to evolve and become more digital and data-driven. Other potential tech trends for 2023 include:

  • Further development of the Metaverse
  • Sophistication of cybersecurity approaches and tools
  • Evolution of the speed and capabilities of 5G networks
  • New uses for the blockchain

Technology is a crucial part of everyone’s daily lives. It’s present in people’s routines from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep and in every step in between. No matter how much technology has evolved, new programs, apps, and tools continue to surprise us every year.

Companies want to invest in complex applications that allow customers to have everything they might need at the push of a button and in artificial intelligence programs that can quickly adapt to unpredictable circumstances. At the same time, companies will look for sustainable technology to help them meet environmental requirements and reduce waste. All of that promises a very dynamic and interesting year for technology.
